Banana Blossom

The banana blossom is the flower of the banana plant and is native to the Andes of Colombia. The banana flower is a large, dark purple-red flower that grows bananas down a bunch.

The Flower inside is full of small flowers that develop themselves to normal bananas. The flavor of this edible flower is floury and bitter and is usually used as a complement to a dish.

Preparation

Remove the outer leaves until the interior can be seen. Some recipes advise steaming for 20 minutes in full flower before you cut the flower. This can also be done in a much shorter time in the microwave oven by placing the flower on a plate and covering it with plastic foil. Allow the flour before cutting and wear gloves when cutting, because it creates black spots. Now one can consume or further prepare the flower.

Consumption

Bananas Flowers are usually consumed as a supplement to a meal dish. The flower can be eaten raw or cooked.

When consume

Eat flowers that are fresh and bright. Often the flowers wrapped in transparent foil to prevent dehydration.

Keep the flowers in the fridge and consume within a few days.
