Red Velvet Cake Mix

Red Velvet Cake is actually nothing more than a normal cake, the texture and taste are not so different nowadays. What is striking is the particular red color. Originally, beetroot was used for this, nowadays it is a more red color matter which makes the cake so striking. What makes the cake slightly different from the normal hairstyle or cake types is the extra addition of cocoa. For a traditional velvet cake, the cream cheese frosting should not be missing. Red Velvet cake is a type of cake that has been found in a number of recipe books since 1972, but was actually a real luxury item in the 1960s and was only intended for the elite.


  • 105 ml of vegetable oil
  • 200 ml of water
  • 3 medium free-range eggs
  • 1 tub of betty crocker rich cream cheese style or vanilla icing
  • Cake tin

Preparation method:

  1. Mix the eggs, oil, water and cake mix gently together and whisk (by hand or electric) for 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour the cake mixture evenly into your two greased cake tins. For cupcakes pour mix evenly into the cupcake cases
  3. Bake in the center of the oven (180°C / 160°C (fan))for 23-28 minutes or until a rounded knife inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.
  4. For cupcakes bake both trays together for 18-22 minutes.
  5. Then cool on a wire rack. Sandwich your cakes together and cover with cream cheese style icing or vanilla icing.
