Cherimoya, also called Jamaica apple - is a heart-shaped fruit with a green, sometimes light purple skin that has scales. Because seeds of these fruits were found during excavations in Peru, it is concluded that the cherimoya was already known to the Incas. The flesh is white and creamy and contains many inedible black pips. The taste of cherimoya is reminiscent of pineapple and strawberries with whipped cream. Delicious! The fruit is ripe when the skin starts to turn black. Cherimoya is a fairly fragile fruit and is only imported on a small scale.
