These beans are pickled in a mixture of cane sugar and water. The sweet taste in combination with the beans is something different from what we Dutch are used to. The sweet beans are seen in Asia as a delicacy and can be found in many desserts. Think of the Filipino Halo Halo, where the sweet beans on shaved ice together with Ube carrot and coconut, mungbeans and jackfruit make a delicious dessert.
