Soto Ayam Bumbu

Soto Ayam, also spelled Soto Ajam and in some variations known as Saoto, is a fragrant Indonesian chicken soup that is hearty enough to be enjoyed as a complete meal. It is one of Indonesia's best-known soup dishes and can be served for lunch, dinner, or whenever you are craving a warm and comforting meal.

As with many traditional Indonesian dishes, there is no single definitive recipe for Soto Ayam. Recipes vary from one region to another, and individual families often have their own preferred combination of ingredients, herbs, and spices.

The foundation of the dish is usually a fragrant chicken broth, seasoned with aromatic herbs and spices. What makes Soto Ayam particularly enjoyable is the variety of ingredients that can be added to the soup. These can be presented separately in bowls on the table, allowing everyone to create their own combination before pouring the piping-hot broth over the ingredients.

Popular additions include glass vermicelli (so-oen), bean sprouts, shredded or sliced chicken, boiled egg, slices of cooked potato, spring onion, and celery. Just before serving, the soup is often topped with crispy fried onions or fried garlic for extra flavor and texture. Sambal can be served on the side for those who prefer their Soto Ayam with an extra spicy kick.

Because everyone can choose their own ingredients, Soto Ayam is a wonderful dish to enjoy together with family and friends. You can easily adapt it to your own taste by adding extra vegetables, rice, noodles, lime, or your favorite Indonesian condiments.

A wonderfully warming and versatile meal that brings the authentic flavors and social dining culture of Indonesia straight to your table.
