Sugarcane Sugar Panutsa

This product exists for 100% sugar cane sugar. Panutsa is traditionally made crystallizing dark brown cane sugar with lime water. The mixture is then poured into a coconut until it hardens. The pieces hardened Panutsa can then be used to make the Panocha or as a sweet substance for coffee or tea. Panocha is a sweet treat that consists of melted cane sugar that crystallizes with peanuts to create a kind of flat round cake. In Leyte in the old days, they used the term pedazos de panocha (Spanish for "pieces of panocha"). In the census of the Philippine Islands taken in 1903, it was noted that the term was Pinocha in Romblon and that Panocha was used in Albay, Camarines, Antiques, Bohol, Cavite, Cebu, La Laguna, and Sorsogon.
