In 1521 the famous explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed down many islands in search of the "Spice Islands". As the last destination he arrived at the warm tropical beaches of the Philippines. The natural herbs were available here in large sizes and so was the "Bird's Eye red hot pepper". A small but robust pepper variety, with a very sharp taste. From that moment on the pepper type was given the nickname "Labuyo". In centuries there are centuries gone by and still the farmers at the foot of the dangerous Mayon vulcan are busy with the legend and perfecting the growth conditions of the Bird's Eye red hot pepper type.
