Rendang spice Paste

Rendang is a classic of Indonesian cuisine, known for its rich, aromatic, and deeply spiced flavor. There are many regional variations throughout Indonesia, with recipes, spices, and preparation methods differing from one region and family to another.

This Rendang Paste provides an easy way to prepare a flavorful rendang at home. Rendang is traditionally often prepared with beef, slowly cooked with coconut milk and an aromatic spice base. Slow cooking allows the flavors to penetrate the meat while the sauce gradually becomes richer and more concentrated.

The spice paste can also be used to prepare chicken rendang or a meat-free version with ingredients such as jackfruit, tofu, or vegetables. Add coconut milk or coconut cream according to your preferred recipe and simmer until the dish reaches the desired consistency.

Serve rendang with steamed white rice, pandan rice, or nasi kuning, and add sambal, crispy fried onions, and vegetables for a delicious Indonesian meal.

Ingredients for 4 people

• 1 package of spice paste for Indonesian Rendang curry dish
• 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
• 450 gr. chicken, lamb or beef cut into cubes
• 440 ml of coconut milk or milk
• Kaffir lime leaves as a garnish

Preparation:

1. Heat the oil in a pan at a moderate temperature
2. Add the spice paste and stir-fry for 2 minutes
3. Add the meat and roast for 2 minutes
4. Then add the coconut milk and bring it to the boil and let it simmer for half an hour
5. Remove the lid from the pan and let it simmer for another 20 minutes until the meat is tender and the sauce is thickened
6. Stirring occasionally
7. Garnish and serve with rice
